Oh I am so glad to hear I'm not the only person who couldn't be arsed with The Passage! Turgid writing, mediocre plotting, no suspense, no world-building plausibility----The Stand + vampires - decent writing is exactly the formula. Maybe people thought it was better than average pulp because it was so dull?
