I don't know why he continues to try and do the screwball comedies ... he lost the edge for them years ago. Deconstructing Harry was one of my faves in recent history and Match Point was a close favorite.
In fact, my favorite Allen film is Husbands and Wives, easily one of his darker films.
The Girl detests him and even she like Match Point though.

Match Point was a great return to form for Allen, but it doesn't surprise me that he wasn't able to maintain it. I was once a huge fan, but it's fair to say that Allen's is an uneven body of work, from really astounding films (e.g. Crimes and Misdemeanors, Manhattan, Husbands and Wives, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Zelig, Stardust Memories, Match Point) to unwatchable ones (e.g. Melinda and Melinda).
On balance, there's more good than bad, but, especially in recent years, it's been something of a crap shoot.

It would have been nice if he could have kept the streak going for more than one film, though.
