I must've gone to a cool high school. For a physics project we had to build our own instruments. I built an electric violin. Shoddy, horrible soldering job, but the damn thing worked. Not that anybody would want to hear it. Remember the devil's part from Devil Went Down to Georgia? Yeah, kinda like that, but much worse.

My high school just taught us how to put up with jackass trombone players. Which, granted, is a valuable life skill.
That violin still sounds like a cool project. One of these days, I want to try building a practice bass along the same lines.
