Because Injustice Is Here

Somebody said today, "What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them."

Today, I'm inclined to let those who would still second-guess King let have their "concerns," their "misgivings," their petty quibbles yearning to suck column inches.

Because history was made today. Because today we showed just how far we've come - cries for the "proper channels," snorts of derision and hate, and all.

And if they prefer a petty, self-satisfied second-guessing of history to the hope of seeing justice come to Birmingham, I say let them. May the ground move beneath their feet as much as mine, though they never feel its rise.

We have a long way to go, yes, and they'll complain the whole way there, but we'll get there eventually. That was King's hope, and it is mine.
