Yes! You're absolutely right that one of the maddening things about the cell market in general is "applications" that are really just content wrappers. As I understand it, this is partly because the combination of an open platform for applications, combined with the closed-off nature of those applications, makes it very easy to make a standalone app to display basic data, and very hard to feed your data into an existing app. But it is indeed incredibly annoying, not only in terms of programming cleanliness, but also in terms of screen real estate---why should looking at the schedules for five channels fill five application slots, ferchrissakes?
